Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program Applications Now Available
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has released the 2009 application for the Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program. The program will begin accepting new applications June 1 and continue through July 1. Applications should not be postmarked prior to June 1. Applications are accepted on a first come, first serve basis, so producers are encouraged to apply early. Read More

FDA Announces Confirmation of the Effective Date of the BSE Final Rule
The Food and Drug Administration today announced that the final rule entitled ‘‘Substances Prohibited From Use in Animal Food or Feed,’’ will become effective on April 27, 2009. However, to allow renderers additional time to comply with the new requirements, the Agency has established a compliance date of October 26, 2009. The additional 6 months will provide time for those affected to identify appropriate methods for disposing of material prohibited from use in animal feed by this rule. FDA is encouraging affected parties who are able to begin complying with the rule to do so as soon as possible. To read the full announcement, visit FDA's site.

USDA Establishes Naturally Raised Marketing Claim Standard
Washington, January 16. 2009 -- The U. S. Department of Agriculture today issued a voluntary standard for naturally raised livestock and meat marketing claims. The standard will be published as a notice in the Federal Register and is titled “United States Standards for Livestock and Meat Marketing Claims, Naturally Raised Claim for Livestock and the Meat and Meat Products Derived from such Livestock.” READ MORE
